Cardiff City Mental Hospital was opened in 1908 by Cardiff County Borough Council.In 1948 the hospital was re-named Whitchurch Hospital and was placed in the care of the Whitchurch and Ely Hospital Management Committee. From 1974 Whitchurch Hospital became the centre of the psychiatric services of South Glamorgan Health Authority.

Whitchurch Library is situated on the junction of Velindre and Park roads at the heart of a busy community and shopping area. The library building stands in the in the grounds of the local park.

Records show that a church has existed in Whitchurch since the 12th century. The old St. Mary's was built in the 14th century. The current church is not as old as it would seem and was built in 1883 to designs by Mr J Pritchard.
