Barry Island was a popular holiday resort in the 1960's and 70's. The Butlin's holiday camp was built in 1965 occupying some 45 acres of hilly land on what was known as Nell's Point. The camp settled down to a popular existence and boasted all the usual Butlin's entertainment. The last season for Barry was 1996. Problems with renewing the entertainment licence, along with low bookings and storm damage inflicted during October of that year, finally closed the site for good.
Built in 1927 the Knap Lido was a popular outdoor swimming pool with turnstiles, tiled footbaths and beautiful half circles of brightly-coloured changing huts. Today the area has been regenerated into a pleasant lake and park.
The pebble beach stretches away to the west of Barry. This is a quieter beach, with good parking, popular for a picnic and with windsurfers.
For 175 years Nash Point lighthouse, designed by James Walker, has been keeping the mariner safe of Nash Sands, the sandbanks off the point at the entrance to the Bristol Channel. Nash Point was the last manned lighthouse in Wales. The lighthouse keepers left on 5 August 1998.

Penarth Marina is situated within the sheltered waters of Cardiff Bay and built around the basins of the historic Penarth Docks. The marina provides a safe berth for resident or visiting craft and has 24 hour access via the Cardiff Bay Barrage
This open space over looks Penarth Marina and Haven provides an ideal area for walking and relaxation.
In 1894 work began on a pier designed by H F Edwards and commissioned by the Penarth Promenade and Landing Pier Company Ltd. Under the management of the Mayohs brothers, Penarth Pier was completed the following year, opening on 4th February 1895
